2nd Class
Welcome to 2nd Class – a year of exciting learning, growing confidence, and new responsibilities!
In 2nd Class, children continue to build on the strong foundations developed in the infant and junior classes. This year brings further development in core subjects such as English, Gaeilge, and Maths, as well as a broad and balanced curriculum including SESE (History, Geography, and Science), SPHE, Visual Arts, Music, and PE.
2nd Class is a special year, where pupils begin to show more independence in their work, take pride in their progress, and enjoy learning through both individual and group activities. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and kindness in a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
For many children, this is also the year they prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, which is an important milestone in their faith journey and a cherished part of the school year for families and the whole school community.
This year there are 30 boys & girls in 2nd Class divided into Daisies & Bluebells. Their teachers are Ms. O' Donoghue & Ms. Kennedy. We look forward to a fun-filled year of learning, friendship, and exciting new adventures!
2nd Class Celebrate Pancake Tuesday!🥞
There was great excitement in 2nd Class as we celebrated Pancake Tuesday in style! The children had been looking forward to the day and it certainly did not disappoint.
Our classroom was filled with smiles (and the delicious smell of freshly made pancakes!) as everyone enjoyed this special tradition. The boys and girls had lots of fun choosing their favourite toppings. From classic lemon and sugar to chocolate spread and sprinkles, there were plenty of tasty combinations on display.
Pancake Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday, is a long-standing tradition celebrated in many countries around the world. It was lovely for the children to learn a little about why we mark the day, while also taking part in the fun.
The highlight of the morning was definitely sitting down together to enjoy our treats. There were empty plates all around — always the best sign of a successful Pancake Tuesday!
Well done to all our wonderful 2nd Class pupils for their excellent manners and enthusiasm. It was a flipping fantastic day! 🥞✨
Science Lesson 🔬🧪
Michelle Culloty from Tralee Education Centre did a science lesson with the 2nd Class children recently. They investigated if soap/shower gel/bubble bath/washing up lilquid made the best bubbles. Lots of fun was had!
National Park Visit 🐿️🌿
Siobhán from Killanrey National Park spoke to the children in 2nd Class about different Irish wildlife and their habitats!
Art 🎨🖌️
2nd Class explored fashionable clothing for cold weather through a creative art lesson. The children designed stylish winter outfits, featuring coats, hats, scarves, and boots, while learning how fashion and warmth go hand in hand. Their artwork showcases imagination, individuality, and excellent attention to detail.
Christmas 🎄🎅
Our 2nd Class pupils have been hard at work creating a wonderful collection of festive Christmas artwork. The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as the children experimented with new techniques and materials to bring the magic of the season to life.
The results are truly impressive—bright, joyful, and full of personality! Their creations are now proudly displayed throughout the school, adding a warm Christmas atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.
