2nd Class
Welcome to 2nd Class – a year of exciting learning, growing confidence, and new responsibilities!
In 2nd Class, children continue to build on the strong foundations developed in the infant and junior classes. This year brings further development in core subjects such as English, Gaeilge, and Maths, as well as a broad and balanced curriculum including SESE (History, Geography, and Science), SPHE, Visual Arts, Music, and PE.
2nd Class is a special year, where pupils begin to show more independence in their work, take pride in their progress, and enjoy learning through both individual and group activities. We encourage curiosity, creativity, and kindness in a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
For many children, this is also the year they prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, which is an important milestone in their faith journey and a cherished part of the school year for families and the whole school community.
This year there are 29 boys & girls in 2nd Class.. Their teacher is Ms Egan. We look forward to a fun-filled year of learning, friendship, and exciting new adventures!
Our Self-Portraits 🎨🧑🎨
Second Class have been busy exploring self-portraits in Art! We looked closely at our faces and discovered that everyone is unique.
We learned about the different shapes and features that make up a face, including our eyes, noses, mouths and hair. We then used drawing and colouring techniques to create our own self-portraits.
The children had great fun choosing colours and adding details to make their portraits special and personal. We are very proud of the fantastic artwork they created and loved seeing the different personalities shine through each picture!

Our Personal Timelines 👩👩👧👦🏡
Second Class have been busy learning all about their own personal histories! As part of our work, the children created personal timelines showing some of the special moments and milestones in their lives.
The children also brought in photographs and special objects from home to share with their classmates. We loved hearing the stories behind each item and learning more about what makes each person unique.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to talk, listen and celebrate the important people, places and memories that have helped shape their lives so far. We had lots of fun sharing our stories and discovering how much we have already experienced and achieved!
A big thank you to all the families who helped the children prepare their timelines and choose their special photographs and objects. ❤️
Agallamh: Mé Féin 💚🧡
Second Class have been busy developing their Irish language skills through Agallamh: Mé Féin! The children worked in pairs, taking turns to interview each other about themselves.
They practised asking and answering questions about their names, ages, families, favourite things, hobbies and other facts about themselves. It was a great opportunity for the children to use their Irish in a fun and meaningful way while getting to know their classmates even better.

STEM Challenge: Building a House for the Big Bad Wolf!🏠🐺
As part of our STEM learning, Second Class took on an exciting challenge — to design and build a house that would withstand the Big Bad Wolf!
Working together in small groups, the children put their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills to the test. They planned their designs, selected suitable materials and got busy building their houses.
Once the houses were complete, it was time to put them to the test! The children made predictions, tested their structures and thought carefully about what worked well and what could be improved.
There were lots of great ideas, plenty of teamwork and, most importantly, lots of fun! 🧱🔨💡
We are delighted to report that Second Class are definitely ready to take on the Big Bad Wolf! 🐺💨🏠
